Helping Youth Move Forward
A young person’s past involvement with the justice system should not define their future. Consistent support, meaningful goals, and opportunities to reconnect with school, family, and community can help youth build a different path.
People United of Louisiana’s prevention approach focuses on the needs behind a young person’s challenges. That may include behavioral health support, family connections, education, positive relationships, and referrals to community opportunities. We want youth to participate in setting goals they can work toward.
Supporting a More Stable Path Forward
Returning to school, reconnecting with family, developing positive relationships, or finding meaningful activities can all be important parts of moving forward. We work to help young people identify practical goals and connect with appropriate supports that can help them make progress.

Turning Goals Into Next Steps
Progress does not happen in a single conversation. Young people may need time, encouragement, and access to resources as they work toward their goals.
We encourage youth to take part in identifying what they want to accomplish and the steps that can help them get there. Whether the next step involves education, family connection, behavioral health support, workforce preparation, or another community resource, having a clear direction can help create a more stable path forward.
